Most people decide to use medications or surgery, like Minoxadil, Rogaine or a hair loss transplant in treating hair loss. What these people do not know is that medication and surgery are expensive and may bear some dangerous side effects and risks. The safest and cheapest form of hair loss therapy is natural hair loss treatment, among which are healthy dieting, herbal remedies, exercise and proper hair care techniques.
The basic principle in hair loss treatment is that the same foods that are good for your health are good for your hair. Several factors may lead to hair loss, but adequate good nutrition is very important for most people. Foods that have high contents of proteins, low contents of carbohydrates, and low fat content can aid in keeping the hair healthy and preventing hair loss. For example, essential fatty acids, found in spinach, walnuts, soy, tuna, sardines, sunflower seeds and canola oil, are important dietary essentials useful in maintaining the healthy condition of hair. The omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that are beneficial in keeping the hair healthy. Inadequate amounts of these essential fatty acids could cause hair loss.
There is the need to eat a good nutritional diet in order to avoid hair loss. This diet must have a high content of organic whole foods such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, poultry, fish, eggs, beans, nuts and seeds which provide large amounts of vital nutrients needed for healthy hair roots and the protein keratin. Try not to skip meals, reduce salt, sugar, tea, coffee and chocolate intake, avoid stress, comb your hair gently and avoid using strong chemicals on your hair such as perms and color treatments. Vegetarians are susceptible to hair loss because they normally eat a diet that lacks the important nutrients, vitamin B12, iron and lysine. Vegetarians must realise this and supplement their diet.
Apart from taking the proper diet, several natural herbs are known to be very effective in treating hair loss. Most of the time, these herbs are very good in the prevention and treatment of hair loss. They are often safe; without harmful side effects and also cheap. Examples of such herbs are nettles, usually taken as Nettle Root Extract, which has been proven to be effective for the prevention and treatment of hair loss. Nettles have high contents of vitamins A and C that are useful in inhibiting DHT production and enhancing hair growth as a natural hair loss treatment. Other traditional herbs that are useful as natural hair loss treatments are green tea, liquorice extract, horsetail, ginger, psoralea seeds, apple cider vinegar, rosemary and sage tea.
An important herb that has become popular in medical cycles is Saw Palmetto. Most research concerning Saw Palmetto have been conducted on treating prostatic disease, but more recent ones have been conducted on its ability to treat hair loss. The herb has been seen to be effective in treating benign prostatic disease by reducing levels of DHT, which is known to cause androgenic alopecia, the medical term for male or female pattern hair loss. The usefulness of this herb as a natural hair loss treatment has not been supported by many clinical trials, but some dependable research has been conducted to prove that it can reduce the rate of androgen activity within the hair follicle.
The following supplements may be useful if you are suffering from hair loss.
Evening primrose oil
Multivitamins and multiminerals
Almost everyone experiences, though more serious in some people. If you are being disturbed by this condition it would be advisable to look for treatment in your daily items instead of spending a huge sum of on medical remedies that are accompanied by tons of side effects. Natural remedies are always safe, reliable and very cost effective, all you require is the right knowledge.
Due to these, men and women are examining natural hair loss treatment methods. Even so, many natural methods are available:
Any form of exercise is always good and will enhance blood circulation to every part of the body, including the scalp. Improved blood supply to the hair follicles is considered able to maintain their health and stimulate hair production. This is good if we are discussing prevention. However, it would not be feasible for us to depend on exercise for hair loss treatment.
Jojoba Oil is however very much like human sebum. Most jojoba oil is used as an ingredient in cosmetics and personal care products, especially skin care and hair care. It is massaged on the scalp, and many say it is very effective in stimulating new hair growth.
Now, the role of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is better understood. DHT is known to be the cause of the closing up of hair follicles. When our hair follicles are closed up, hair is suppressed, leading to hair loss. Thus, the higher the DHT in our body, the greater the hair loss. It is therefore important to lower the level of DHT.
The next question you may be asking your doctor is “How to lower the level of DHT then?”
A study in 2007 in Oregon revealed that Saw Palmetto Dihydrotes reduced testosterone levels. In the study the mice were given one of two doses of Saw Palmetto extract, 50 mg/kilogram/day or 300mg/kilogram/day for 3 or 6 months. At the end of the trial the researchers examined the prostates of the mice and observed that the mice that had been given the equivalent of 300mg/kilogram/day had had a substantial reduction in the Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) content of their prostate tissue.
This Saw Palmetto actually reduces the amount of DHT by blocking receptor sites on cell membranes. As DHT levels goes down, hair loss will go down as well.
Provillus has since added Saw Palmetto as their main ingredients that inhibits DHT production and thus shows potential as a help for male hair loss sufferers. The process is easy and effective.
